Zaanaim

2 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Zaanaim (also spelled Zaanannin) was a town or landmark in the territory of Naphtali in northern Israel. It appears in Scripture as a geographical reference point during the era of the judges, most significantly as the location of Jael's tent where she provided shelter to the fleeing Canaanite commander Sisera.

Key Scriptures

"The boundary of Naphtali ran from the oak in Zaanaim, passing Adami Nekeb and Jabneel to Lakkum and ending at the Jordan" (Joshua 19:33, NIV).

"At that time Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel. She held court under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the Israelites went up to her to have their disputes decided. She sent for Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him... Sisera, the commander of Jabin's army, with his chariots and his troops, will be drawn out to the Kishon River, and I will give him into your hands" (Judges 4:4-7, NIV).

Application

Zaanaim reminds us that God uses ordinary places and unexpected people to accomplish His purposes and deliver His people from oppression.
