Overview
In biblical times, a wen referred to a skin condition or cyst that rendered an animal ceremonially unfit for sacrifice. God established strict standards for sacrificial animals, requiring them to be without defect as a reflection of His holiness and the seriousness of worship. Any physical blemish, including a wen, made an offering unacceptable.
Key Scriptures
"You shall not offer anything that has a defect, for it shall not be acceptable for you. When anyone offers a sacrifice of peace offerings to the Lord to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering from the herd or from the flock, to be accepted it must be perfect; there shall be no defect in it. Animals blind or disabled or mutilated or having a discharge or itch or scabs you shall not offer to the Lord" (Leviticus 22:20-22, ESV).
Application
While Old Testament sacrificial laws no longer apply to believers, they remind us that God deserves our best—our whole hearts and genuine worship, not anything careless or defiled by sin.
