Taskmasters

2 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Taskmasters were supervisors appointed to manage and drive workers, often through coercion and punishment. In Egypt, Pharaoh's taskmasters brutally oppressed the Israelites, demanding labor quotas and inflicting physical harm to enforce compliance.

Key Scriptures

"The taskmasters were urgent, saying, 'Complete your work, your daily task, as when there was straw'" (Exodus 5:13, ESV).

"And the taskmasters of Pharaoh and his foremen beat the people of Israel, saying, 'Complete your work, your daily task, as before'" (Exodus 5:14, ESV).

"Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens" (Exodus 1:11, ESV).

Application

We should recognize that while worldly systems may impose harsh demands and burdens, God calls His people to trust in His deliverance and ultimately serve Christ rather than human oppression.
