Overview
Shimrath is mentioned only once in Scripture as a son of Shimei, a Benjamite whose family line is recorded in the genealogical accounts of 1 Chronicles. These genealogies serve to establish the historical continuity of God's covenant people and their tribal divisions in the Promised Land.
Key Scriptures
"And Shimei begat Jahath, and Jahath begat Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These were the sons of Shimei by their fathers' house. And Jahath was the chief, and Zina the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they were in one reckoning, according to their father's house." (1 Chronicles 23:10-11, KJV)
"And the sons of Shimei were, Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief of the fathers of Laadan." (1 Chronicles 23:9, KJV)
Application
Though Shimrath appears briefly in Scripture's genealogies, his inclusion reminds us that God values and preserves the history of His people, and every believer has significance in God's eternal purpose.
