Rapha

9 scripture references across 3 subtopics — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Rapha appears in the genealogical records of 1 Chronicles as an ancestor of the Benjamite line. His descendants, called the Rephaim or giants, are mentioned throughout Scripture as formidable warriors. Several of these giant descendants directly opposed Israel during King David's military campaigns, requiring supernatural strength and faith to overcome.

Key Scriptures

"And Nob, and Kiah, and Aiah, and Rapha. These were the sons of Benjamin" (1 Chronicles 8:2, NASB). "And Moza begot Binea; Raphah was his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son" (1 Chronicles 8:37, NASB). "And the Philistine stood and cried out to the ranks of Israel and said to them, 'Why have you come out to draw up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves and let him come down to me'" (1 Samuel 17:8, ESV)—referring to Goliath, a descendant of Rapha's line.

Application

Recognize that God empowers believers to overcome seemingly impossible obstacles through faith and reliance on His strength, just as David defeated the giants of Rapha's lineage.
