Parricide

3 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

The Bible records instances where children have murdered their parents, revealing the sinful condition of the human heart when separated from God. Such acts represent the ultimate rejection of the fifth commandment to honor father and mother (Exodus 20:12). God's Word shows that parricide brings divine judgment and demonstrates the fulfillment of His purposes even through human wickedness.

Key Scriptures

"And as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer, his sons, struck him down with the sword" (2 Kings 19:37, ESV). "So the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria and from the hand of all his enemies, and he provided for them on every side" (2 Chronicles 32:21, ESV). "So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went home and lived at Nineveh" (Isaiah 37:38, ESV).

Application

Believers should honor their parents as a fundamental expression of obedience to God's law and should recognize that all judgment ultimately rests in His hands.
