Nebushasban

1 scripture reference — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Nebushasban served as a chief eunuch in the court of Nebuchadnezzar II during the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem. When the city fell in 586 BC, he was appointed to oversee the treatment of prisoners and deportees. Though a pagan official serving a conquering power, he demonstrated mercy toward Jeremiah the prophet.

Key Scriptures

"Nebushasban the chief eunuch and all the chief officers of the king of Babylon sent and took Jeremiah from the courtyard of the guard and entrusted him to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, that he should take him home. So he stayed with his own people." (Jeremiah 39:13-14, ESV)

"So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took Jeremiah and said to him, 'The Lord your God has pronounced this disaster on this place."' (Jeremiah 39:11, ESV)

Application

Nebushasban's protection of Jeremiah reminds believers that God can work through unlikely circumstances and even non-believers to accomplish His purposes and preserve His Word.
