Nadab

4 scripture references across 2 subtopics — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Nadab appears in Scripture as both a cautionary figure and a genealogical name. The most significant Nadab was the firstborn son of Aaron the high priest, who along with his brother Abihu perished when they offered "unauthorized fire" before the Lord (Leviticus 10:1-2). This sobering account demonstrates God's holiness and the importance of following His prescribed worship. Other men named Nadab appear in the genealogies of Judah and Benjamin throughout Chronicles.

Key Scriptures

"Now Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord when they offered unauthorized fire before him in the Desert of Sinai" (Numbers 3:4, NIV).

"Nadab died, and then Abihu" (1 Chronicles 2:28, ESV).

"The sons of Jeiel: Abdon, Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab" (1 Chronicles 8:30, ESV).

Application

Nadab's account reminds believers that authentic worship requires reverent obedience to God's revealed Word rather than personal innovation or presumption.
