Overview

Moadiah was a priestly leader among those who returned from the Babylonian exile under Zerubbabel and later served during Nehemiah's governorship. As a head of a paternal house among the priests, he represents the restoration of proper temple worship and priestly service in Jerusalem following the exile.

"And Sallai, Amok, Hilkiah, Jedaiah. These were the chiefs of the priests and their brethren in the days of Jeshua. Moreover the Levites: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah who was over the thanksgiving songs, he and his brethren" (Nehemiah 12:7, NASB).
