Melatiah

1 scripture reference — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Melatiah the Gibeonite was one of the workers who helped rebuild the wall of Jerusalem during the post-exilic period under Nehemiah's leadership. Though little is recorded about him personally, his inclusion in the account demonstrates how God used various people, including those from outside Israel's immediate community, to accomplish His purposes in restoring Jerusalem.

Key Scriptures

"Melatiah the Gibeonite and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon and Mizpah, made repairs opposite the residence of the governor of the region beyond the River." (Nehemiah 3:7, ESV)

This verse is the sole biblical reference to Melatiah, appearing in the detailed account of the wall reconstruction project.

Application

Melatiah's faithful contribution to rebuilding the wall, despite his foreign background, reminds us that God values our service in His kingdom regardless of our circumstances or origins, and that community work done for God's purposes honors Him.
