Overview
Leah was deceived into marriage with Jacob through her father Laban's scheme, yet God honored her with fruitfulness and purpose. Though initially unwanted compared to her sister Rachel, Leah bore Jacob's first four sons—Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah—and later two more sons through her servant, plus a daughter named Dinah. Her story reveals God's sovereign grace working through difficult circumstances and broken families.
Key Scriptures
"When the Lord saw that Leah was unloved, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren" (Genesis 29:31, ESV). "Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben, for she said, 'Because the Lord has looked upon my affliction'" (Genesis 29:32, ESV). "She conceived again and bore a son, and said, 'Because the Lord has heard that I am unloved, he has given me this son also'" (Genesis 29:33, ESV).
Application
When you feel overlooked or rejected, remember that God sees your pain and works redemptively through your circumstances, just as He did for Leah.
