Lazarus

27 scripture references across 4 subtopics — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Lazarus of Bethany was the brother of Mary and Martha, beloved by Jesus. When Lazarus fell gravely ill, his sisters sent word to Jesus, but He delayed His arrival until after Lazarus had died and been in the tomb four days. Jesus then performed one of His greatest miracles by calling Lazarus forth from death, powerfully demonstrating His deity and authority over death itself.

Key Scriptures

"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die'" (John 11:25, NIV).

"Jesus called in a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come out!' The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face" (John 11:43-44, NIV).

"Many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him" (John 11:45, NIV).

Application

Trust Jesus's timing and power in difficult circumstances, knowing that He alone has authority over death and the future.
