Ibleam

0 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Ibleam was a fortified city located in the territory of the tribe of Manasseh in Israel. It became historically significant as the location where King Ahaziah of Judah was mortally wounded during Jehu's execution of God's judgment against the house of Ahab. This event demonstrated God's sovereignty over the kingdoms of Israel and Judah.

Key Scriptures

"Now Ahaziah king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house. And Jehu pursued him and said, 'Shoot him also in the chariot.' So they shot him at the ascent of Gur, which is near Ibleam" (2 Kings 9:27, NASB).

"When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal offspring" (2 Kings 11:1, NASB).

Application

Ibleam reminds us that God's judgment against sin and unfaithfulness has real consequences, and His purposes will be accomplished regardless of human resistance or royal power.
