Feet

11 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

In John 13, Jesus performs the cultural role of a servant by washing His disciples' feet during their final meal together. This shocking act of humility—performed by the Master himself—fundamentally redefines what greatness means in God's kingdom. Jesus explicitly teaches that His disciples must follow His example of sacrificial service.

Key Scriptures

"He rose from supper and laid aside his garments and girded himself with a towel. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was girded about him" (John 13:4-5, ESV).

"If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you" (John 13:14-15, ESV).

Application

Believers are called to practice humble, practical service toward one another, recognizing that true Christian leadership is demonstrated through selfless sacrifice, not position or authority.
