Zerahiah

Zerahiah was a priest in Israel's lineage, appearing in genealogical records during both the post-exile period and the time of Ezra.

Overview

Zerahiah is mentioned in the priestly genealogies of Israel as a descendant of Aaron. He appears in the genealogical records of 1 Chronicles as part of the priestly line and again during the post-exilic period under Ezra's leadership. His name means "the Lord has risen" or "brightness of the Lord."

Key Scriptures

"Bukki begat Uzzi, and Uzzi begat Zerahiah" (1 Chronicles 6:6, KJV). "Of the sons of Immer; Zerahiah the son of Uzzi" (Ezra 7:4, KJV). "And with him Zerahiah of the sons of Pharosh, and with him were registered by genealogy of the males an hundred and fifty" (Ezra 8:4, KJV).

Application

Zerahiah's faithful participation in Israel's priestly service and his return from exile remind us that God preserves a faithful remnant through whom His purposes continue across generations.
