Overview
Tiglath-Pileser III (also called Pul) was a powerful Assyrian monarch who conquered numerous kingdoms in the ancient Near East. King Ahaz of Judah sought his military assistance against the northern kingdom of Israel and Syria, but at great cost. Tiglath-Pileser's campaigns resulted in the deportation of Israeli tribes and the weakening of Judah's independence, illustrating how worldly alliances often fail and incur God's displeasure.
