Overview
Tahpanhes (also spelled Daphne) was a fortified Egyptian city in the Nile Delta where Jeremiah and other Jewish survivors sought refuge after Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem in 586 BC. Despite God's warning through the prophet, they fled to Egypt seeking safety and security rather than trusting in the Lord's protection and promises. This migration represents the spiritual failure of God's people to obey His Word and rely on Him alone.

"Then all the officials and all the people came to Jeremiah and said, 'May the Lord be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accordance with all the word the Lord your God sends you to tell us'" (Jeremiah 42:5, NIV).
