Sherebiah

Sherebiah was a Levite who served during the time of Ezra and Nehemiah, assisting in leading worship, teaching God's Law, and helping with temple administration in post-exilic Jerusalem.

Overview

Sherebiah was a prominent Levite who played a significant role in the spiritual restoration of Israel after the Babylonian exile. He worked alongside Ezra in bringing the Law of God back to the people and assisted in leading corporate worship and confession before the Lord. His name appears repeatedly in records of Levitical leadership, demonstrating his faithful service in multiple capacities.

Key Scriptures

"And the Levites, namely, Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, who was over the thanksgiving songs, he and his brothers." (Nehemiah 12:8, NASB)

"Then I separated twelve of the leading priests: Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brothers with them." (Ezra 8:24, NASB)

"And Jeshua, and Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah—these were over the thanksgiving songs." (Nehemiah 12:24, ESV)

Application

Like Sherebiah, believers today should faithfully serve the Lord's kingdom through whatever gifts and opportunities He provides, whether in worship leadership, teaching Scripture, or administrative support.
