Reverence

Reverence is a deep respect and awe shown toward God, His house, and those whom He honors, reflecting a heart that recognizes His supreme authority and holiness.

Overview

Biblical reverence encompasses honoring God's name, His sanctuary, and the wisdom of age and authority He establishes. This attitude of respect and fear of the Lord demonstrates submission to His sovereignty and recognition of His worthy character.

Key Scriptures

"You shall keep my Sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord" (Leviticus 26:2, ESV).

"You shall stand up before the gray head and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God: I am the Lord" (Leviticus 19:32, ESV).

"So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes" (Job 32:1, ESV) with the younger Elihu waiting respectfully before speaking (Job 32:4-6).

Application

Cultivate reverence by honoring God in worship, respecting His Word, valuing the wisdom of godly elders, and recognizing His authority in every area of your life.
