Ragau

Ragau was a descendant of Shem in the genealogy leading to Abraham and ultimately to Jesus Christ. He lived during the post-flood era and is mentioned in both the Genesis and Chronicles genealogies.

Overview

Ragau (also spelled Reu) was the son of Peleg and father of Serug in the line of Shem. He represents one link in the vital genealogical chain connecting Noah to Abraham, and through Abraham to Jesus Christ. The genealogies in Genesis and 1 Chronicles preserve his name as part of God's redemptive history.

Key Scriptures

"When Peleg had lived 30 years, he fathered Reu. And Peleg lived after he fathered Reu 209 years and had other sons and daughters" (Genesis 11:18-19, ESV). "Reu lived 32 years and fathered Serug" (Genesis 11:20, ESV). "Serug lived 30 years and fathered Nahor" (Genesis 11:22, ESV).

Application

Studying these genealogies reminds us that God orchestrated human history with purpose, preserving the lineage through which Jesus would come.
