Overview
The word "rabbi" (Hebrew: ??????) literally means "my master" and was a common title of honor for Jewish teachers and leaders. In the Gospels, Jesus is frequently addressed as Rabbi by His disciples and others, acknowledging His role as a teacher of God's Word. However, Jesus taught that ultimate spiritual authority belongs to God alone, not to human titles or positions.
