Overview
Mount Pisgah was located east of the Jordan River in the land of Moab, part of the Abarim mountain range. It held profound spiritual significance as the location where Moses ascended to view Canaan before his death, marking both the completion of Israel's wilderness wandering and the transition of leadership to Joshua.
Key Scriptures
"Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. And the Lord showed him all the land" (Deuteronomy 34:1, NIV).
"The Lord said to Balaam, 'Go with the men, but speak only the word I tell you.' So Balaam went with Balak's officials" (Numbers 23:15-16, ESV)—Balak took Balaam to the field of Zophim on the top of Pisgah to curse Israel.
