Overview
Onesimus was a slave belonging to Philemon, a wealthy Christian at Colossae. He had apparently fled his master but was converted to Christ through Paul's ministry, likely while Paul was imprisoned. Paul then sent Onesimus back to Philemon with a letter appealing for his acceptance as a beloved brother in Christ rather than merely as a slave.
