Nogah

Nogah was a son of King David, listed among his children born in Jerusalem. He appears briefly in the genealogical records of 1 Chronicles.

Overview

Nogah was one of the sons born to King David during his reign in Jerusalem. Though he is mentioned in the official genealogy of David's descendants, little is recorded about his individual life or significance in Scripture. His name appears only twice in the biblical record, both times in lists of David's children.

Key Scriptures

"These were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, four by Bath-shua the daughter of Ammiel; then Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet, Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet, nine" (1 Chronicles 14:4-5, ESV).

"The sons of David were these: Amnon, Daniel, Absalom, Adonijah, Shephatiah, and Ithream. These six were born to him in Hebron, and there he reigned seven years and six months. And these were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, four by Bath-shua; also Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet, Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, and Elishama" (1 Chronicles 3:2-3, 5-7, ESV).

Application

Nogah's brief mention reminds us that not every person in God's story is called to prominence, yet each has their place in God's sovereign plan and genealogical record.
