Nephishesim

Nephishesim was a family of temple servants who returned from Babylonian exile with Zerubbabel. They are listed among the descendants of Solomon's servants in the registry of those rebuilding Jerusalem.

Overview

Nephishesim appears in the genealogical records of those who returned from the Babylonian captivity under Zerubbabel's leadership. As members of the temple servants (also called Nethinim), they were dedicated to assisting the Levites in temple worship and maintenance. Their inclusion in the official registry demonstrates God's faithfulness in preserving His people through exile.

Key Scriptures

"The children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth-hazzebaim, the children of Nephishesim" (Nehemiah 7:52, ESV).

"These were the people of the province who came up out of the captivity of those exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried into exile; they returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own town" (Nehemiah 7:6, ESV).

Application

Believers can find encouragement in how God preserves a faithful remnant through difficult seasons and restores them to purposeful service in His kingdom.
