Naphish

Naphish was one of the twelve sons of Ishmael, representing an Arabian tribal lineage in the genealogical records of Scripture.

Overview

Naphish was a son of Ishmael and grandson of Abraham. His name appears in the genealogical records of Genesis and 1 Chronicles, identifying him as the ancestor of an Arabian people or tribe. Like his brothers, Naphish represents the expansion of Ishmael's descendants throughout the Arabian regions.

Key Scriptures

"These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their villages and by their settlements; twelve princes according to their tribes" (Genesis 25:16, ESV). Naphish is listed among these twelve sons in Genesis 25:15 and 1 Chronicles 1:31, establishing his place in the patriarchal line descended from Abraham.

Application

The genealogies of Scripture remind us that God's promises extend through various peoples and generations, and we should recognize God's providential care over all nations and tribes throughout history.
