Ignorance

Ignorance refers to the lack of knowledge or understanding, particularly regarding God's ways and wisdom. Scripture warns against willful ignorance while acknowledging the limits of human understanding.

Overview

The Bible addresses ignorance in two ways: the natural limitations of human knowledge regarding God's infinite wisdom, and the culpable ignorance that results from rejecting truth or refusing instruction. Job's friends confronted the mystery of divine ways beyond human comprehension, while Proverbs warns against the ignorance that leads to foolish and destructive choices.

Key Scriptures

"Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?" (Job 11:7, NIV). "A simple young man...went the way to her house at twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night" (Proverbs 7:7-9, NASB), depicting ignorance that leads to sin. "But where can wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? Man does not know its value" (Job 28:12-13, NASB).

Application

Pursue biblical knowledge diligently to avoid destructive ignorance, while humbly acknowledging that God's wisdom infinitely exceeds our understanding.
