Overview
Hazael rose to power in Syria during the reigns of Ahab's descendants in Israel. The prophet Elisha anointed him as king, prophesying that he would cause great suffering to Israel (2 Kings 8:8-15). Despite his brutal campaigns, Hazael's actions executed God's judgment on Israel's unfaithfulness, demonstrating that even pagan rulers serve God's purposes.
