Overview
The Flood of Genesis was a watershed moment in human history when God judged the wickedness of mankind and cleansed the earth through water, preserving only Noah, his family, and representatives of the animal kingdom. Jesus referenced this event as a type of His future judgment, emphasizing that just as people were unaware before the Flood came, so too will His return catch many unprepared.
Key Scriptures
"Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all" (Luke 17:26-27, ESV).
"Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar" (Genesis 8:20, ESV).
"And the Lord said in his heart, 'I will never again curse the ground because of man'" (Genesis 8:21a, ESV).
