Ephraim, Tribe Of

Ephraim was one of the twelve tribes of Israel, descended from Joseph's son, and became a dominant northern tribe known for its inheritance in central Canaan and its military strength.

Overview

The tribe of Ephraim occupied the central highlands of Canaan, with their territory bordered by the Jordan River to the east and extending westward. They were a powerful and populous tribe that played significant roles in Israel's early conflicts and tribal leadership. Ephraim's prominence eventually made the northern kingdom synonymous with its name.
