Emims

The Emims were an ancient race of giants who inhabited Moab before the Moabites possessed the land. They are mentioned briefly in Deuteronomy as an example of peoples displaced by God's sovereign plan.

Overview

The Emims were a tall, powerful people who occupied the land of Moab in ancient times. Like other giant races in Scripture, they were eventually displaced and their territory was given to the Moabites. Their existence demonstrates God's sovereignty over nations and His fulfillment of promises to His people.

Key Scriptures

"The Emims formerly lived there, a people as great and numerous and tall as the Anakim. Like the Anakim, they are also counted as Rephaim, but the Moabites call them Emims." (Deuteronomy 2:10, ESV)

"The Horites also formerly lived in Seir, but the people of Esau dispossessed them and destroyed them from before them and settled in their place, as Israel did to the land of their possession, which the LORD gave to them." (Deuteronomy 2:12, ESV)

Application

The account of the Emims reminds believers that God's purposes will be accomplished regardless of human might or opposition, encouraging trust in His sovereign plan for our lives.
