BAR'SABAS (son of Saba), the name of two men. Joseph Barsabas, surnamed Justus, was one of the two candidates for the vacancy in the apostleship occasioned by the apostasy of Judas. Acts 1:23. Some identify him with Joses Barnabas, the companion of Paul. See preceding article. Judas Barsabas. Acts 15:22. He was appointed to accompany Paul and Barnabas from Jerusalem to Antioch on an important embassy. He is called one of "the chief among the brethren," but is otherwise unknown.
