Amram

A Levite from the Kohathite clan, the father of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, and the husband of Jochebed (his aunt).

Amram lived 137 years during the Israelite slavery in Egypt. When Pharaoh ordered all Hebrew male infants killed, his wife Jochebed hid their son Moses for three months, then placed him in a basket in the Nile. Amram’s descendants became the priestly line (Aaron) and the leadership line (Moses). In the New Testament, Amram is noted in Stephen’s speech as part of the generation before the Exodus. He is also portrayed in later Jewish tradition as a righteous man who divorced his wife during the persecution, then remarried her after Miriam’s prophecy.
