Sodi

Sodi was one of the twelve Israelite spies sent by Moses to scout the land of Canaan before the conquest. He represented the tribe of Zebulun in this reconnaissance mission.

Overview

Sodi was the father of Gaddiel, who served as one of the twelve spies Moses sent to explore Canaan (Numbers 13:10). This mission occurred during Israel's wilderness wanderings, approximately forty years before entering the Promised Land. The spies were tasked with assessing the land's resources, inhabitants, and military strength to inform Israel's invasion strategy.

Key Scriptures

"From the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel son of Sodi" (Numbers 13:10, NIV). Of the twelve spies sent, ten brought back a discouraging report that caused the people to fear, while only Joshua and Caleb encouraged faith in God's promise. Numbers 14:36-37 records that the unfaithful spies died by plague, though Joshua and Caleb were spared.

Application

Sodi's mention reminds believers that faithfulness in small responsibilities—like his son Gaddiel's role as a spy—matters in God's redemptive plan, and that unbelief has serious spiritual consequences.
