Overview
Simri was a son of Hosah, a Levite assigned to gatekeeping duties during King David's reign. He was chosen by lot along with other family members to serve as a gatekeeper at the house of the Lord, demonstrating the structured organization of temple service in Israel.
Key Scriptures
"And Hosah had sons: Shimri the chief (for though he was not the firstborn, his father made him chief), Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth. All the sons and brothers of Hosah were thirteen." (1 Chronicles 26:10, ESV)
"They cast lots for every gate, the small as well as the great, according to their fathers' houses. The lot for the east fell to Shelemiah." (1 Chronicles 26:12-13, ESV)
Application
Simri's assignment reminds us that all faithful service in God's kingdom, whether prominent or behind-the-scenes, matters and serves the Lord's purposes.
