Shual

Shaul was a son of Zophah in the tribe of Asher, listed among the descendants of Israel. He is also referenced in connection with a Philistine military campaign during King Saul's reign.

Overview

Shaul appears in the genealogical records of Israel as a member of the tribe of Asher. The name means "asked for" or "demanded" in Hebrew. While Shaul is a minor biblical figure, his inclusion in genealogies demonstrates God's care in recording the descendants of His people.

Key Scriptures

"And the sons of Zophah: Suah, Harnepher, Shual, Beri, Imrah" (1 Chronicles 7:36, ESV). This verse places Shaul within the family line of Asher through his father Zophah.

"And the raiders came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies. One company turned toward the way that leads to Ophrah, to the land of Shual" (1 Samuel 13:17, ESV). This reference mentions the land of Shual during a Philistine incursion in Saul's time.

Application

Though Shaul receives minimal mention in Scripture, his presence reminds us that God knows and records all His people, and every life has significance in His redemptive plan.
