Shihon

Shihon was a town in the territory of Issachar in ancient Israel, mentioned in the tribal land divisions recorded in Joshua.

Overview

Shihon was one of the cities allocated to the tribe of Issachar during Joshua's distribution of the Promised Land among the twelve tribes of Israel. This town is mentioned only once in Scripture, appearing in the list of Issachar's inheritance. The exact location of Shihon is uncertain, though it was situated somewhere within the tribal territory of Issachar in central Canaan.

Key Scriptures

"And their territory included Jezreel, Chesulloth, Shunem, Hapharaim, Shion, Anaharath" (Joshua 19:19, ESV). This passage lists Shihon (also transliterated as Shion) among the cities belonging to Issachar's portion of the land.

Application

Shihon reminds us that God's promise to distribute the land was fulfilled down to the smallest town, demonstrating His faithful attention to detail and His provision for His people.
