Overview
Shear-Jashub was the firstborn son of the prophet Isaiah, whose name carried profound theological significance during a critical period in Judah's history. The name itself means 'a remnant shall return,' embodying God's promise that despite coming judgment, a faithful remnant would survive and return to the Lord. This child served as a living sign to God's people of both coming judgment and ultimate restoration.
Key Scriptures
"Then the Lord said to Isaiah, 'Go out, you and Shear-Jashub your son, to meet Ahaz at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, on the highway to the Washerman's Field'" (Isaiah 7:3, ESV).
"If the Lord of hosts had not left us a few survivors, we should have been like Sodom and become like Gomorrah" (Isaiah 1:9, ESV).
Application
Believers today can take comfort that God always preserves a faithful remnant and that His judgments are tempered with mercy toward those who trust in Him.
