Shamir

Shamir was a city in the hill country of Judah and the hometown of Tola, a judge of Israel. It represents a place of godly leadership in Old Testament history.

Overview

Shamir was a town located in the mountainous region of Judah during the Old Testament period. It gained biblical significance as the residence of Tola, who served as a judge over Israel for twenty-three years during a time of relative peace. Shamir exemplifies how God worked through leaders in smaller cities to bring stability and righteousness to His people.

Key Scriptures

"Tola the son of Puah, son of Dodo, a man of Issachar, arose to save Israel. He judged Israel twenty-three years. Then he died and was buried in Shamir" (Judges 10:1-2, ESV).

"And Shamir in the hill country" (Joshua 15:48, ESV)—identifying Shamir as one of the cities allotted to Judah.

Application

Just as Tola faithfully judged from Shamir, we are called to exercise godly leadership and influence wherever the Lord has placed us, whether in prominence or obscurity.
