Shallecheth

Shallecheth was one of the gates of the temple in Jerusalem, mentioned in connection with the divisions of the gatekeepers during King David's reign. It appears to have been located on the west side of the temple complex.

Overview

Shallecheth (also transliterated as Shalleketh) was a gate of the house of the Lord in ancient Jerusalem. It is mentioned in the context of David's organization of the Levitical gatekeepers who served in the temple. The gate's exact location and primary function are not extensively detailed in Scripture, but it was clearly part of the temple's architectural design and security arrangements.

Key Scriptures

"And to Shuppim and Hosah the lot came out for the west side, with the gate of Shallecheth on the ascending road. Guard corresponded to guard" (1 Chronicles 26:16, ESV).

"These were the divisions of the gatekeepers among the sons of Korah and the sons of Merari" (1 Chronicles 26:19, ESV).

Application

The mention of Shallecheth reminds believers that God's house requires order, organization, and faithful stewardship, as seen in David's careful arrangement of temple personnel.
