Overview
Schism is the fracturing of church unity through deliberate separation and the formation of competing groups claiming Christian authority. While denominations have doctrinal differences, schisms are characterized by pride, personal disputes, and rejection of legitimate Christian brothers and sisters. God designed the church as one body with many members, each necessary and interdependent.
Key Scriptures
"But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another." (1 Corinthians 12:24-25, ESV)
"Now I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment." (1 Corinthians 1:10, ESV)
"I appeal to you, dear friends, by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—I who am 'timid' when face to face with you, but 'bold' toward you when away!" (2 Corinthians 10:1, NIV)
Application
Pursue reconciliation and unity in your local church, addressing conflicts biblically rather than allowing personal grievances to fragment the body of Christ.
