Overview
Tophel is mentioned only once in Scripture as a geographical marker in the opening verse of Deuteronomy. It served as one of several landmark locations Moses referenced when recounting Israel's wilderness journey and God's faithfulness to the nation.
Key Scriptures
"These are the words Moses spoke to all Israel in the wilderness east of the Jordan—in the Arabah opposite Suph, between Paran and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth and Dizahab." (Deuteronomy 1:1, NIV)
"Now Moses wrote down this law and gave it to the Levitical priests, who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel." (Deuteronomy 31:9, ESV)
Application
Tophel reminds us that God's Word was given in specific times and places, anchoring biblical truth to real historical events and locations that demonstrated God's active presence with His people.
