Three Taverns

Three Taverns was a stopping point on the Appian Way where Roman Christians met Paul as he traveled to Rome. This brief encounter demonstrates the early church's eagerness to encourage persecuted believers.

Overview

Three Taverns was a station on the famous Appian Way, approximately 33 miles south of Rome. When Paul traveled to Rome as a prisoner, Christians from the city traveled out to meet him at this location, showing their commitment to fellowship and encouragement despite his chains.

Key Scriptures

"And the brothers there, when they heard about us, came as far as the Forum of Appius and Three Taverns to meet us. On seeing them, Paul thanked God and took courage." (Acts 28:15, ESV)

"Now when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard; but Paul was permitted to stay by himself with the soldier who was guarding him." (Acts 28:16, NASB)

Application

Believers today should follow the early church's example by actively seeking opportunities to encourage fellow Christians who face trials or spiritual challenges.
