Overview
Teresh and Bigthan were eunuchs and chamberlains in the household of King Ahasuerus of Persia. These officials conspired to take the life of the king, likely motivated by personal grievance or ambition. Their plot was discovered and exposed by Mordecai, a Jewish resident in the palace, whose faithfulness in reporting the conspiracy would later have significant consequences for the Jewish people.
Key Scriptures
"In those days, while Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate, Bigthan and Teresh, two of the king's eunuchs who guarded the threshold, became angry and sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus." (Esther 2:21, ESV)
"And when the matter was investigated and found to be so, the men were both hanged on the gallows. And it was recorded in the book of the chronicles in the presence of the king." (Esther 2:23, ESV)
Application
Like Mordecai, believers should remain vigilant and faithful to report wickedness and injustice, trusting God with the outcomes of our obedience.
