Tabitha

Tabitha (Dorcas) was a devoted Christian woman in Joppa known for her good works and generosity to the poor. Peter raised her from the dead, demonstrating God's power and strengthening faith in the early church.

Overview

Tabitha, whose name means "gazelle" (Aramaic: Dorcas in Greek), lived in Joppa during the apostolic era. She was a disciple characterized by continuous good deeds and charitable giving to widows and the needy. When she became ill and died, the community mourned her loss, and Peter was summoned to her home.
