Tabeal

Tabeal was the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, whom the northern kingdom and Syria conspired to place on the throne of Judah during Isaiah's time. This failed political scheme demonstrates God's sovereignty over earthly kingdoms and His protection of His covenant people.

Overview

During the reign of Ahaz of Judah (735 BC), the kings of Israel and Syria formed an alliance against Judah and plotted to replace Ahaz with Tabeal, son of Remaliah. This conspiracy was part of the Syro-Ephraimitic War. Despite the apparent threat to Judah's royal line and God's covenant promises, the plot failed—a testimony to God's faithfulness.

Key Scriptures

"Then the LORD said to Isaiah, 'Go out, please, to meet Ahaz, you and Shear-jashub your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, on the highway to the fuller's field, and say to him, "Take care, and be calm; do not fear and do not let your heart be faint because of these two smoldering stumps of firebrands, at the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria and the son of Remaliah. Because Syria, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has devised evil against you'" (Isaiah 7:3-5, ESV).

Application

When facing opposition or seemingly overwhelming political or personal circumstances, trust that God's purposes cannot be thwarted by human schemes.
