Worldliness

Worldliness refers to the pursuit of earthly pleasures, wealth, and status that oppose God's kingdom values. Scripture warns that temporary worldly gains ultimately lead to emptiness and judgment.

Overview

Worldliness is the desire for the things of this present world—riches, power, and earthly recognition—rather than treasuring Christ and His kingdom. The Bible reveals that worldly pursuits, though they may seem desirable and satisfying, are ultimately hollow and transient, leaving the soul impoverished before God.

Key Scriptures

"Yet the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel. And they said, 'No! But there shall be a king over us, that we also may be like all the nations'" (1 Samuel 8:19-20, ESV).

"Though evil tastes sweet in his mouth and he hides it under his tongue, though he cannot bear to let it go and keeps it in his mouth, yet his food will turn sour in his stomach" (Job 20:12-14, NIV).

"Yet he will not enjoy the profit from his trading, because he has oppressed the poor and left them with nothing" (Job 20:19, ESV).

Application

Evaluate your pursuits daily: are you building treasure in heaven through Christ, or investing in temporal things that will fade away?
