Overview
Zuriel son of Abihail was appointed as the leader of the Merari clan during Israel's time in the wilderness. The Merarites were responsible for transporting and maintaining the structural components of the tabernacle, including the frames, crossbars, posts, bases, and all related equipment. As a Levite, Zuriel served under the direct supervision of Moses and Aaron in organizing and leading his clan's duties related to God's house of worship.

"The leader of the fathers' houses of the Merarites was Zuriel the son of Abihail. They were to camp on the north side of the tabernacle" (Numbers 3:35, ESV).
