Zodiac, Signs of

The zodiac and astrological signs are celestial constellations that some use for divination and prediction, but Scripture warns against relying on such practices for spiritual guidance.

Overview

The zodiac consists of twelve constellations along the ecliptic plane, traditionally used in astrology to predict human affairs and character. While the Bible acknowledges these celestial signs exist, it explicitly warns against consulting astrologers or relying on the stars for spiritual direction. God created the heavens and their signs for His purposes, not as instruments of human divination.

Key Scriptures

"Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades? Can you loosen Orion's belt? Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear with its cubs?" (Job 38:31-32, NIV)

"When you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars—all the heavenly array—do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven." (Deuteronomy 4:19, NIV)

"Let no one be found among you...who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells" (Deuteronomy 18:10-11, NIV)

Application

Believers should reject astrology and horoscopes, trusting instead in God's sovereign will revealed through Scripture rather than celestial signs.
