Ziphion

Ziphion was a son of Gad and grandson of Jacob, whose name appears in the genealogical records of Israel. He is mentioned among the sons of Gad who entered Egypt with Jacob during the famine.

Overview

Ziphion was one of the sons of Gad, who was himself a son of Jacob and Zilpah. He is listed among the family members who accompanied Jacob into Egypt during the severe famine recorded in Genesis. His inclusion in the genealogical accounts emphasizes the growth and expansion of Jacob's descendants into the nation of Israel.

Key Scriptures

"The sons of Gad by their families: of Zephon, the family of the Zephonites" (Numbers 26:15, ESV). "And the sons of Gad: Ziphion and Haggi, Shuni and Ezbon, Eri and Arodi and Areli" (Genesis 46:16, ESV).

Application

Though Ziphion is mentioned only briefly in Scripture, his inclusion in God's genealogical record reminds us that the Lord values and remembers all His people, regardless of prominence, and each person has a place in His redemptive plan for humanity.
